Replacing dated, damaged wood paneling, Seguin Services, a non-profit social service agency serving the developmentally disabled population opted for sustainable design. The new wall paneling for the elevator lobby features "kirei" board, made entirely of reclaimed agricultural products (left over from the production of sorghum). Disguised behind one of the panels is an access door to plumbing pipes. Since the elevator wall is curved, we utilized narrow strips of kirei to follow the shape. Due to the strong vertical grain of kirei, seams are naturally hidden.
